Parks & Recreation Advisory Board

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) is a group of 11 committed community members who are passionate about Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County. PRAB provides advice to the County Executive, County Council, and Prince George’s County Planning Board on issues related to parks and recreation, as appropriate. PRAB members are appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council.

Regular Meetings

  • 7 – 9 p.m.
  • 4th Wednesday of every month (3rd Wednesday for November and December)
  • Usually held at:
    Parks and Recreation Administration Building

  • Please note meetings may be held at different locations in the community.

Responsibilities

PRAB members are committed to:

  • Engage the community to gather and share information about M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County programs and facilities
  • Understand the philosophy and the implementation of the Formula 2040: Functional Master Plan for Parks, Recreation, and Open Space
  • Assist with decision-making on partnerships and naming requests
  • Visit Parks and Recreation programs and facilities, and attend groundbreakings, dedications, and special events
  • Advocate for the M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County

Responsibilities

PRAB provides advice to the County Council, County Executive, and Planning Board on issues related to parks and recreation. All members appointed to the Board shall serve as liaisons with the community and provide advice and advocacy to the total park and recreation program and not to any special park and recreation segment. Membership in PRAB consists of individuals who have been appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council. Initially, four members are appointed for four years, four members are appointed for three years and three members are appointed for two years.

Meetings

Under the current by-laws, PRAB meets once a month on every fourth Wednesday of the month, from 7 to 9 p.m., with a light dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The Board usually meets at the Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) Parks and Recreation Administration Building and occasionally at other M-NCPPC sites on a rotating basis.

Regions

PRAB members are identified as Central, Southern, Northern, and At-Large members, representing that region of the County.
