Marcel Taylor is a Washington, D.C. based artist who uses his work to engage in critical commentary on social political issues. Marcel received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University and his Master of Fine Arts degree from Lesley University. In addition to exhibiting in multiple gallery spaces, Taylor has been awarded several fellowships from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. His previous body of abstract paintings, Cityflux, focuses on gentrification and its effects on endemic populations. His new body of work, Unapologetic, is a bold series of figurative paintings that attempts to counter the negative stereotypes of African Americans as seen across media platforms. Through the lens of Afrofuturism, Taylor reimagines worlds that oppose racial archetypes and reclaims the past and present for a more empowering future for Blacks. Utilizing tools such as A.I. and the internet, Marcel creates vivid acrylic paintings that illustrate liberated African Americans via varying narratives of Black life.
