M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation Announces Operations and Emergency Warming Centers Updates for January 27

Riverdale, MD — January 26, 2026 — The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County, will be closed on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, due to the icy weather conditions. Emergency warming centers will remain open to provide residents with safe, heated spaces.  
 

As winter weather continues to impact our region, employees are reminded to stay alert for updates regarding departmental operations and to monitor official M-NCPPC communication channels, including broadcast emails frequently, the Weather Alert Line, and departmental announcements. 

 
Warming Centers Open on Monday-Tuesday, January 26-27 

M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County’s operating procedures activate warming centers during business hours when the Department is open. Under the current weather conditions, the Department is operating three designated emergency warming centers—located in the North, Central, and South portions of the County—to ensure countywide access. These centers are available for individuals and families without heat, those experiencing homelessness, or others in need of shelter during the storm. One location will remain open 24 hours a day until further notice.

The College Park Airport will open for landings starting at 8 am on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.  

For information on additional warming center accommodations, residents are encouraged to visit the Prince George’s County website at princegeorgescountymd.gov. 
 

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, check on neighbors—especially older adults and individuals with disabilities—and take precautions to prevent cold-related injuries.
