From school programs and festivals to office team-building sessions, we bring the arts directly to you. Whether you’re planning a community day or a special event at one of our parks, we’ll help you make it unforgettable with a splash of art and excitement. Let’s roll out the art- together!

Arts on a Roll has been rolling out to the community since 2015. We started by providing a few small group visual arts workshops out of a mini-van a couple of times a year. Now we offer up to 180 workshops and events annually and continue to grow.

Performing Arts Activities

Intro to Improv

Participants will learn about improvisation, quick thinking, teamwork, and storytelling by engaging in a variety of interactive theatre games and exercises together. (All ages. Classes or Community Events)

Instrument Crafting

Participants will design and create their own handheld noisemakers, such as maracas, hand drums, rattle drums, or animal noisemakers, using craft materials and simple building techniques. As they create, participants explore sound, rhythm, and design while building creativity, fine motor skills, and an understanding of how instruments produce sound. Each finished piece can be used for play, rhythm activities, or group music making, making this both a creative and interactive experience. (All ages. Classes/Community Events/Street Fairs)

Bucket Drum Jam Session

Participants will come together for an energetic, instructor-led bucket drumming experience, exploring rhythm, teamwork, and musical expression. Through guided play, call and response, and group participation, participants will learn basic drumming techniques, rhythms, and simple songs—building coordination, listening skills, and a strong sense of community through music. (All ages. Classes/Community Events)

Tamboo Bamboo

Participants will use varying sizes of pre-cut “bamboo” sticks (made from PVC piping) to create collaborative melodic grooves in the style of Trinidadian tamboo bamboo bands. (Ages 10 & up. Perfect for Classes/Workshops, Fairs, and Community Events)

Button-Up!

Embellish lapels, backpacks, and bags when you use our button machines to design and create buttons from a variety of materials. We even have special badges for young children, as well as medallions, magnets, or key chains.

Great for all ages.

Painting (Canvas, Flower Pots, Mugs, or Glassware)

There’s no reason to fear a blank canvas. If you’ve ever wanted to paint, here’s a class that offers the perfect introduction to art, and will have you ready to pick up your brush with confidence. This class introduces the foundational concepts of acrylic painting as you explore composition and variation, learn art terminology, and a bit of art history as well.
All levels welcome.

Sharpie “Tie-Dye” (T-Shirt, Bandanas or Tote bags)

This engaging art lesson in the concepts of solubility, color mixing, and the movement of molecules uses Sharpies to create Tie Dye t-shirts, bandanas, or tote bags. Colors explode before your eyes in this fun, easy, and mess-free new tie-dye technique.
All levels welcome. Additional supply fee may apply.

Community Canvas Project

Enjoy a creative and collaborative painting experience with our Community Canvas activity! You will work together with our instructors and other artists to create a gorgeous 36×48” mural. Simply match the acrylic colors to their correct number and spot on the canvas until the whole painting is complete! This activity welcomes artists of all ages and skill levels.

Folder to Fantasy

Create your own Storybook using a folder! Draw your story from beginning to end and bring it to life with your own stick-puppet characters.

Brush Pen & Chill Studio

Relax and create! Use brush pens to design bold, and colorful artwork. You can follow along or create your own style!

Add a little art to your next party or celebration! Arts on a Roll’s Creative Spirit Series provides fun, engaging activities that are perfect for adults and seniors.

Paint Night

Discover your artistic side at this fun acrylic painting workshop. Paint your masterpiece inspired by a provided theme or free paint your own ideas and design. Along the way, learn tips and tricks on how to paint like a master.  

Glass Painting Workshop

Dress up your drinks with this fun glass-painting workshop. Learn the tips and tricks to designing and painting your own wine or beer glass. The perfect curio for any glassware cabinet.
$1/person additional material fee.

Paper Mosaic Collage

Enjoy a creative and collaborative experience with our Community Paper Mosaic activity! You will work together with our instructors and other artists to create a gorgeous 36×48” mural! Simply match the paper colors to their correct number and spot on the canvas until the whole design is complete!

Mindful Art

Neurographic Drawing

Participants will learn about the practice of mindfulness and Art Therapy by creating their own 9×12” Neurographic artwork using various drawing materials. (All Ages. Perfect for Classes)

Agamograph Illusion Art

Participants will create a kinetic optical illusion artwork by combining two different images and folding the paper into an accordion shape so that the artwork changes depending on the viewing angle. This project blends art, design, and a bit of visual science—and is especially satisfying when revealed. (Kids & Teens. Perfect for Classes)

Mindful Watercolor Painting

Participants will create a calming watercolor painting and then add pen details on top once the paint has dried. This mindful art process encourages relaxation, self-expression, and focus. Watercolor allows for freedom and flow, while pen work adds structure and grounding through intentional line work. (Teens & Adults. Perfect for Classes or Community Events)

“I AM” Affirmation Collage

Participants will create an “I Am” collage that combines visual design with self-reflection. This activity supports identity exploration, self-awareness, and personal expression by inviting participants to represent who they are through images, words, and design choices. (All Ages. Perfect for Classes and Community Events)

Arts on a Roll is a mobile, on demand program within the Community Arts team of the Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County, MD. We are seeking enthusiastic artists and arts educators to lead classes, design workshops, develop curriculum, and assist at events for visual and performing arts programs. Our instructors represent a range of artistic backgrounds and varied levels of expertise, and we invite applicants with no prior teaching experience who can assist at classes and events, to skilled educators who can develop curriculum and lead programs.

As an Arts on a Roll Teaching Artist, you will interface with program participants of all ages at a variety of events, from individual client parties to Girls and Boys Scouts meetings, summer camps, after school programs, and county and city-wide festivals. You will collaborate with our roster of 20-25 teaching artists to provide high quality programming and prompt and courteous customer service, and to co-foster a respectful and inspiring work environment.

This is a flexible, gig-based position based on the needs of the program and the availability of our teaching artists. We seek candidates with a passion for the arts as well as community-based programming and civic engagement, and we provide opportunities for artistic collaboration, personal growth, and professional development.

Qualifications:

  1. Enthusiasm for arts education and ability to work with students of all ages, backgrounds, and ability levels.
  2. Lead Teachers need a minimum of one year of experience teaching in the field of visual arts, music, theater, or dance, as well as strong classroom management and lesson planning skills.
  3. Weekend and evening availability.
  4. A valid driver’s license and willingness to drive throughout Prince George’s County, MD, and the greater Washington, D.C., area.
  5. Compliance with Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation employment requirements, including fingerprinting and background check
