Overview

Henson Creek Golf Course is a premier beginner-friendly golf course located in Fort Washington, MD. The Facility opened in 1963, and offers a par 33 9-Hole golf course, driving range, practice green, and a fully stocked golf shop and snack bar.

Daily: 7:30 am-7:30 pm

Open play is back on Tuesdays & Thursdays. Leagues are completed for the season.

Accessible Golf

Accessible golf carts are available on our three courses!

We offer accessible golf carts to make the popular sport of golf more available to individuals with mobility impairments. Operated by hand controls, the seat raises and lowers as well as swivels to allow positioning to the ball. The golf bag is mounted to the front for easy access to the clubs.

Availability

The accessible carts are available for use by beginning golfers at the driving range; more experienced golfers may use the carts on the 9-hole course. The fee for use is $7 per round of golf, or free with a bucket of balls at the driving range.

Golf Policies

Policies and procedures are in place to govern the way golfers use the course. The purpose is to ensure the quality of the course and enable all golfers to play undisturbed and safely.

It is a player’s responsibility to know and understand the policies of each course prior to stepping on the course. Local course rules will be posted in the Pro shop, on score cards or on signage around the course. Etiquette is the consideration of other golfers.

Upon arrival, check into the Pro shop to pay your fees.

Basic Rules & Regulations

USGA Rules govern all play (except as modified by local rules):

Balls hit into unplayable water hazards require a dropped ball and a penalty stroke

Balls not found, require a dropped ball and a penalty stoke

Do not search for a lost ball for more than 5 minutes

Four players to a group (No spectators or caddies)

Free drop from cart paths, ground under repair and out of bounds

In case of lightning or severe weather, return to the club house

Make sure no one is in front or behind you when swinging your club

Make sure you play your own ball

Observe modified rules for golfers with disabilities

Play holes in order

Player farthest from the hole, hits first

Player with lowest score, hits first on next tee

Remove flagstick from the hole before putting

No Show Policy

In order to respect our paying customers, M-NCPPC enforces a No Show policy to ensure that reserved Tee Times are either fulfilled or cancelled prior to the scheduled time. Cancellations can be made by calling the Pro Shop or through our online reservation system. No Show policy is enforced according to the following schedule:

1st Infraction

Customer reservation privileges are suspended until such time as they speak with the staff at one of our courses to confirm understanding of the No Show policy. After speaking with staff, your reservation privileges will be re-instated.

3rd Infraction

Customer reservation privileges are suspended for a period of 90 days.

5th Infraction

Customer reservation privileges are suspended for the remainder of the season.

Please note, account suspension only affects reservation. Customers are still allowed to come play on the course, but will not be able to make advance reservations under their name.

Etiquette

Be quiet and still while other players are about to make their shot.

Be ready to play when it is your turn.

Coolers are not permitted. Alcohol may not be brought onto premises.

Don’t stand close to players about to swing their club.

Don’t take more than one practice swing.

Keep golf carts 30 feet from greens and tees.

Keep pull carts off greens, collars, aprons, and tees.

No bags on greens.

Observe cart paths and signs.

Rake sand traps after play.

Record your scores honestly.

Repair ball marks.

Replace divots.

Replace flag after play.

Shirts must be worn at all times. No tank tops or cut-off shorts are allowed.

Soft spikes required (no metal spikes).

Stay on pace of play with recommended times.

Stopping between nines may forfeit your turn on the 10th tee.

When necessary, allow the group behind to play through.

Write down scores while on the way to next hole to allow group behind you to approach the green.

Yell “fore” if a struck ball is heading into other golfers.

League Schedule

  • Leagues play from April – September. Course will be open for play when leagues are not in session.
  • Mondays: Spark Golf League – The last 18-hole green fees ticket sold to the public will be at 1 pm and the last 9-hole green fees ticket will be sold at 4:45 pm.
  • Tuesdays: Men’s League (Phil Martin) The last 18-hole green fees ticket sold to the public will be at 11 am and the last 9-hole green fees ticket sold to the public will be at 1 pm.  Shotgun starts at 3 & 5 pm.
  • Thursdays: Senior League (John Wolfe) shotgun starts at 8 am. Course closed to public until 1 pm.

Interested in becoming an instructor?

Please visit PGParks.com and apply for one of our golf instructor positions. No outside instruction is allowed.

Only instructors and/or staff who have been hired by our facility’s management team and approved to teach group and private lessons are permitted to provide instruction at department golf courses.  Outside private instructors are not permitted to train anyone at this facility or to use any of our equipment in connection with unauthorized instruction.

The Department of Parks and Recreation’s Park Rules and Regulations, Chapter IV: Prohibited Activities and Conduct, Section 11: Commercial Activities, states “No person shall solicit or otherwise undertake any Commercial Activity on Park Property, except as authorized by Permit or Park Directive.”

Additionally, Chapter IV: Prohibited Activities and Conduct, Section 22: Intended Use of Park Property, states “No person shall misuse or abuse any Park Property by utilizing it in any manner other than as appropriate according to its intended design or in another manner in which the Commission normally employs that Park Property in the ordinary course.”

Facility Management reserves the right to question any activity that may resemble private instruction or lessons for compensation.  For further clarity, some possible offenses may include, but are not limited to the following:

        – Providing detailed instructions to other patron(s) when you and/or they are on park property.

        – Soliciting business of and/or receiving payment from another patron.

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission developed its Park Rules and Regulations to ensure the safety of our patrons, to avoid liability claims, and to maintain the consistency of the facility’s lesson program.  Unauthorized instructors who are not M-NCPPC staff are not covered by our liability insurance.

We are proud to offer exciting programs to enable our youth opportunities to learn golf and improve their skills. Learning the game of golf at an early age is much easier than when we are older and once you learn, it can be a lifelong hobby. The game of golf teaches us respect, patience, and concentration – skills we also need for the game of life.

First Tee of Greater Washington, DC (Ages 7-18)

The First Tee started as a way to bring an affordable junior golf program to youth and communities that did not have them. What The First Tee soon discovered was that by blending the rules of the game with life and leadership skills, kids and teens didn’t just learn how to putt – they were learning important values. 

The First Tee Mission: To impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf. 

First Tee Registration

PGA Junior League

PGA Jr. League is changing the way golf is learned and played through its fun, team-oriented approach. Taught by professional golf instructors, players will participate in organized team practice sessions and matches held within the league.

  • Ages vary per league between 8-18

Operation 36

Learning to play golf can be an overwhelming and frustrating experience if you don’t have a clear plan! That is why Operation 36 provides beginners with the most effective developmental programs and technology to learn to play golf. Become a skilled golfer by following a motivating roadmap to shooting Par (36) or better for 9 holes!  Spring and fall classes include on-course playing every week!

  • Small group classes are led by trained golf professionals designed to help you develop your skills.
  • Fun, engaging classes that include games and training activities to help players improve.
  • Coaches use the 6-level curriculum to help guide your long-term development.
