Montpelier is honored to present, Rev. Joanne M. Braxton’s, PhD, M.Div. Travel photography of her Odyssey to Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Senegal that explores an unexpected “very personal story” with her ancestral memory. She hopes that you will see and feel what she saw and felt as she delved to discover the meaning of her grandmother’s words “My father said that we have a home over there.” Dr. Braxton is a descendant of the enslaved of Montpelier. Through her photography, she is honoring her enslaved great-grandfather, and “diasporic Africans, unwilling immigrants to the Chesapeake in the 17th and 18th centuries.”
