M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County Provides Updates Following Severe Weather
RIVERDALE, Md. (September 5, 2026) – Following severe storms that impacted the region, M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County continues to assess damage to parks, trails, and recreational facilities throughout the county. With additional storms expected, residents and visitors are urged to use caution and remain alert to changing conditions.
Watkins Regional Park remains closed as crews continue to assess and address storm-related damage. The closure is necessary to protect the public while staff work to clear debris and address hazards throughout the park.
Department maintenance and operations crews will continue working tomorrow to clear leaves, fallen limbs, and other storm-related debris throughout the park system. Crews are prioritizing areas with immediate safety concerns and will continue assessments as weather conditions permit.
The following parks and facilities are currently closed due to storm-related impacts:
- Watkins Regional Park
- Cedar Heights Community Center
- Cedar Park Heights Park
- Seat Pleasant Activity Center
- Evelyn Cole Senior Activity Center
- Patuxent Community Center
- Oakcrest Community Center
Facilities that have reopened:
- Columbia Park Community Center
- Peppermill Community Center
Additional closure:
- Riversdale House Museum – closed through Sunday, September 6, 2026
Residents and visitors are advised to avoid closed parks, trails, and facilities and to adhere to all posted signage, barricades, and staff instructions.
Those visiting open parks and facilities should use extreme caution and remain alert for downed trees, fallen branches, leaves, debris, standing water, and other storm-related hazards. Conditions may change quickly, particularly with additional storms expected in the area.
