Through image manipulation and the re-contextualizing of symbols, Matthew McLaughlin’s work creates new perspectives for the viewer to consider when confronted with their own relationship with the environment. This is done through the isolation of symbols, highlighting aspects of an environment that are typically overlooked and forgotten. Divisions in space and territories create new relationships with our environment each time their scale and orientation are altered through physical and psychological manifestations.
