Fairwood Community Park Summer Performances
The Arts & Cultural Heritage Division of the Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County is proud to announce the return of the Fairwood Community Park Summer Performance Series and Music Festival for 2023!
This annual summer tradition began a decade ago as The Fairwood Arts Festival. Now a seasonal series, it has grown into one of the most anticipated performing arts events in Prince George’s County. Fairwood Community Park is located at 12390 Fairwood Parkway, Bowie 20720. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and join us for some fun in the sun!
2023 Summer Performance Schedule
Sunday, June 11 | 3:30-6 pm
Pan Masters Steel Orchestra – Be transported to the twin island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago with the enchanting music of Pan Masters Steel Orchestra! Based in Brentwood Maryland since 1985, the band has charmed audiences with their engaging, energetic performances and diverse repertoire ranging from calypso, reggae, and Latin, to jazz, pop, and classical music.
Los Nuevos Diablos de la Cumbia – With musicians from Latin America and beyond, Washington D.C. based Los Nuevos Diablos de la Cumbia highlights the immigrant experience in the US while taking audiences on a musical journey through Latin America via cumbia.
Eclipse International – Made up of cultures and talents ranging from the Caribbean shores of Trinidad & Tobago to the United States of America, Eclipse International has created a magical sound. Having opened for artists including Beres Hammond, Romain Virgo, Problem Child, Bunji Garlin, and others, Eclipse International continues to “bring the vibes.”

Shakespeare In the Parks – The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Division is proud to announce our 10th Anniversary Celebration Tour with the show that started it all, The Tempest, directed by founding Artistic Director Christopher Dwyer. Complete with magic, faeries, and physical storytelling, this fast-paced 90-minute outdoor adventure is perfect for the entire family. Bring your lawn chair, a picnic, and enjoy the Bard under the stars.

The Tribe Band – Since 2010, the Tribe Band has been entertaining audiences in the DMV and beyond. Covering music ranging from gospel to blues, R&B to jazz, soul to Motown, and more, the Tribe Band has a reputation for making music that gets people out of their seats and onto their feet!
Deborah Bond – Washington, D.C.-based global vocal sensation Deborah Bond has packed nightclubs and venues all over the world. Her distinctive vocals can be heard on recordings with The Foreign Exchange, Frank McComb, the late acid jazz guitarist Ronnie Jordan, and the legendary UK soul/R&B supergroup, Incognito.

Suttle (formerly Suttle Thoughts) – Suttle has been entertaining audiences in the DMV since 1994 with their unique blend of Go-Go, R&B, and a touch of jazz. They have opened for artists such as The Isley Brothers and played at Takoma Station Tavern, Bethesda Blues and Jazz, and at the tribute to the iconic Godfather of Go-Go: Chuck Brown.
DuPont Brass – DuPont Brass is a one-of-a-kind, brass-driven supergroup from the D.C. Metro Area. Originally composed of five music majors from Howard University trying to raise money for tuition one Christmas season, they have grown to a 9-piece ensemble consisting of brass, a rhythm section, and vocalists. DuPont Brass has performed at the D.C. Jazz Festival, The Washington Performing Arts Society, The Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and have been featured on WHUT’s “DMV the Beat” on PBS. Their unique blend of jazz, hip-hop, and r&b has been coined as ‘eclectic soul’.

Bowie State University Chorale – Under the direction of Professor Brandon J. Felder and Dr. Marymal Holmes, the Bowie State University chorale serves as one of the Fine and Performing Arts Ambassadors regularly performing for on and off campus events as well as community events within the Washington Metropolitan Area and beyond.
The Prince George’s County Choral Society – The Prince George’s County Choral Society was founded in 2021 with the goal of strengthening and uniting the diverse communities of Prince George’s County through the art of choral singing.
Black History – Mixing the foundations of West African storytelling with the influences of rap’s golden era to form a sound they call Griot Soul, the band Black History, founded by Shun McGhee, will have audiences singing and swaying to the groove.
The 8 Ohms Band – Based in Annapolis, Maryland with roots in Prince George’s County, the 8 Ohms band has a powerhouse lineup of players from all over the DC metro area. Bringing heaping doses of Horn Heavy Funk. Drawing from diverse musical backgrounds, the 8 Ohms are known for blurring the lines between hard groove, funk, pop, soul & reggae. 8 Ohms won the 2022 Wammie Award for BEST FUNK ARTIST.
Marcus Johnson – Contemporary jazz keyboardist/pianist and composer Marcus Johnson has been delighting listeners all over the world with his chart-topping music. He founded Marimelj Entertainment Group with Black Entertainment Television (BET) founder and businessman Robert L. Johnson. Johnson has been described as the heir apparent to the funky urban groove music style and sound made famous by legendary jazz greats, George Duke and Herbie Hancock.

Fairwood Summer Performances History
This summer tradition began in 2013 as a single-day event bringing community residents and visitors together to enjoy the creations on display by local artists and craftspeople. Musical entertainment was provided by some of the area’s favorite bands. Over the years, Fairwood residents became collaborators, thereby ensuring that the desires of the community remained central to planning the festival.
Now firmly established as a seasonal series, it has grown into one of the most anticipated performing arts events in Prince George’s County. The list of musical acts that have performed at Fairwood include high profile national acts and regional favorites such as Sugar Bear and EU, The Chuck Brown Band, DC Fusion, Secret Society, Akua Alrich, The Let It Flow Band, and The Exclusives, a band comprised of Fairwood residents!
