Trips & Excursions

It's time to hit the road and travel to some of the most exciting destinations on the East Coast. The trips sponsored by The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission have a reputation for being as varied as they are inexpensive and are known for attracting congenial, energetic repeat travelers. It's just a matter of time before you're hooked too. But register early, seats go faster than we can say "Welcome Aboard."

  • All Northern Area Trips depart from and return to: College Park Airport, 1909 Corporal Frank Scott Drive, College Park, Maryland

  • All trips are self-sustaining, therefore, refunds for all trips will be made only if your place can be filled or the trip is cancelled. Medical reasons cannot be used for refunds unless your spot can be filled.

    Classic Crooners on Stage in Lancaster
    This musical production celebrates all the iconic songsters like Bing Crosby, Perry Como and Rosemary Clooney. It recaptures the famous evenings with the Rat Pack when Frank, Dean and Sammy owned Las Vegas. They had the looks, the voices and the bands to boot … and so does the American Music Theatre with an orchestra that would make Tommy Dorsey proud. Time will be given for a little shopping at Kitchen Kettle Village. Lunch is included prior to the show at Miller's all-you-can-eat restaurant for great shrimp, carved meats, salads, Pennsylvania Dutch foods, gourmet desserts, ice cream and more.

    Patrick Henry Reenactment, Canal Cruise
    Spend a wonderful afternoon in your reserved seat in historic St. John's Church in Richmond for a reenactment of Patrick Henry's most famous speech at the original location of the Second Virginia Convention of 1775. Professional actors attired in colonial era clothing will portray ten of the "founding fathers" who participated in the animated convention debates culminating in Patrick Henry's "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" speech. The reenactment is preceded by a patriotic music program performed on a rare Adam Stein organ. Tour also includes a 35-minute narrated canal boat tour of the James River's Kanawha Canal.     A Summer Day On Chincoteague Island, VA
    Chincoteague Island is a perfect place to be on a summer day. It's Virginia's only resort island and perhaps the most beautiful island on Virginia's Eastern Shore. We'll tour Chincoteague's Live Pony Center, the only breeding center with descendents of the famous "Misty", and have an opportunity to interact with the ponies. The center also has many collectibles, antiques and a great gift shop. Included on tour is a stop at the Bed & Breakfast where in 1947 Marguerite Henry wrote the beloved book - "Misty of Chincoteague". You'll have time on your own for lunch and to explore the island's unique shops and restaurants. An early dinner will be included in Berlin at the Atlantic Hotel's wonderful restaurant.

    Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse Adventure Tour

    Take a once-in-a-lifetime tour of this National Historic Landmark, the last screw pile lighthouse left in its original location offshore in the Chesapeake Bay. The tour includes orientation at the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse Interpretive Center in Annapolis, a 30-minute boat ride to the lighthouse, an on board docent-led tour, and a 30-minute return boat ride. SPECIAL NOTE: This tour involves physical exertion including transferring from the boat to climb a steep ladder to access the lighthouse through a small trap door.
