Hours of operation:
Monday-Saturday, 8:30 am-5 pm
Sundays, 11 am-4 pm
Holidays, 11 am-4 pm (9/3 - Labor Day, 11/12 - Veteran’s Day, 11/23 - Employee Appreciation Day)
Closed (11/22 - Thanksgiving Day, 12/25 - Christmas Day)


Clearwater Nature Center provides a variety of teen oriented nature programs and activities. We also provide seasonal volunteer opportunities to teens in need of service learning hours. Nominal fees may apply for some programs. Unless otherwise noted, advance registration is required for all teen programs and space is limited. For additional information regarding our Teen Programs, please contact Park Naturalist Tonya Brown.


Summer 2008 Programs

Registration for Summer 2008 programs begins Monday, May 12 for residents of Prince George's and Montgomery Counties, and Monday, May 19 for all other jurisdictions. Registration through SMARTlink is required for all programs containing a SMARTlink course number. For programs without a course number, please call the nature center directly to sign up.

JUNE

Saturday, June 7, 8 am - 12 pm
River or Lake Clean Up
Dress to get wet and muddy. Bring a dry set of clothes with you. Individuals or groups can participate. Service learning hours can be earned with this event. Applications must be turned in by June 1. Adopt-A-Trail Program Orientation
During this orientation, learn how you can spend the summer by being actively involved in monitoring and maintaining our park trail system. Service learning hours can be earned with this event. The Incredible Race
Teams of 5 will race through Cosca Park completing a series of challengers - some mental, some physical. The top 3 teams to arrive at the final destination win. For registration and other information please contact Park Naturalist Beth Wisotzkey.

Thursday-Friday, June 26-27, 5 pm-5 pm
Overnight Adventure
Teens: Can you face the challenge of an overnight adventure? Come experience camping, ropes/challenge course, hikes, and other fun nature activities. For additional information please contact Park Naturalist Beth Wisotzkey.

AUGUST

Saturday, August 30, 1-4 pm
Volunteer Orientation & Workplace Training (Fall Session)
Volunteers are needed to assist staff in a variety of tasks such as animal care, educational programs, summer day camps, trail work, admisitrative tasks, and other projects.Individuals who have an appreciation for nature and the outdoors and would like to volunteer their time are welcomed. Through participation in volunteer service projects, individuals of all ages gain experience in stewardship of natural, cultural, and historical resources, and positive recreational activities. This orientation is required for all teens wishing to volunteer during the Fall months. Hours will vary according to schedule and staff needs. Please note that all volunteers will be fingerprinted.

Registration for the Fall session orientation must be made through SMARTlink. Please also remember to turn in your volunteer application at least 2 weeks before the orientation start date. APPLICATION DUE NO LATER THAN: August 16, 2008. Volunteer applications can be found online at http://www.pgparks.com/things/volunteer.html.

Location/Directions - Located in Cosca Regional Park, in Clinton, Maryland.

From the Capital Beltway (I-495), take Branch Ave. toward Waldorf for 5.4 miles. At traffic light, turn right onto Surratts Road. Turn left at traffic light onto Brandywine Road. At next traffic light, turn right onto Thrift Road. Remain on Thrift Road until you see the sign for Clearwater Nature Center (it will be on your right).
