Visit our Reproduction Kitchen
The Reproduction Kitchen offers visitors a chance to see the work that went into the Snowden's famous hospitality. Learn about the skilled workers - enslaved, indentured and free - who enabled plantations like Montpelier to prosper, from those who built the kitchen to those who cooked the wide array of tempting dishes enjoyed at early Maryland's finest tables.

Anniversary Photo Contest
Come enjoy the many facets of the Montpelier grounds in this celebratory exhibit. Winners will receive cash prizes. For details on how to enter, contact Mary Jurkiewicz at 301-953-1376.

All Badge and Try-It Programs are $7 per scout.

Girl Scout Etiquette Teas. A fun two-hour program that will teach the finer points of tea service, table manners and conversation. Includes tea and scones, party favors, and a tour of Montpelier.

Teas are $15 per scout. Reservations required. Please call Valerie Peacock at 301-498-8486 for more information or reservations.

Spring History Lecture Series
James Gibbs of Gibbs Archaeological consulting will give an illustrated lecture on plantation life along the Maryland waterways during the 1600s. He offers a glimpse of what life and death were like in Maryland during its founding years. His lecture discusses two 17th century plantation sites located on the Patuxent River. No reservation required.
All ages welcome. Free

Montpelier Festival of Herbs, Tea and the Arts
Montpelier Mansion and Montpelier Arts Center join forces to bring you a day that will delight all your senses. Enjoy a delicious cup of tea - complete with scones, jam and cream - inside the elegant mansion. Hear live music and see original artwork in the art center. Stroll through our herb garden to give your nose a treat. And shop among vendors of herbs, plants and fine hand-made items. You can also take in a lecture or workshop and sit down to a scrumptious lunch. There's plenty for the kids to do too, with colonial toys and games, a hands-on art tent, and a live animal exhibit.
All ages welcome. Free

Family Fun Night!
To celebrate our birthday, we invite you to bring the family for some good, old fashioned fun. Indoor and outdoor activities include colonial games, trying on 18th century costumes, crafts, and more. No reservation required.

Needleart 2008
Sponsored by Stitching Pretty of Laurel, Montpelier hosts the 13th annual Needleart show. See the rooms of Montpelier filled with a dazzling array of stitched art, from needlepoint to ribbon work. The colors, designs and originality of Needleart will take your breath away! Judges choose winners in several categories, and you the visitor are invited to vote for the "People's Choice" award. Demonstrations of various needleart techniques are given daily.

Great Architecture Symposium
Montpelier Mansion has been called one of the best examples of Georgian architecture in Maryland. What makes a great Georgian house? Did 18th century plantation owners have a different definition of "greatness?" What can the layout of the current grounds tell us about the Snowdens and their status? In this daylong symposium, architectural and landscape historians will examine Montpelier and its environs to reveal what the Snowden estate meant to its owners and their peers, neighbors, servants and slaves. Lunch included in fee. Reservations required.

Fall History Lecture Series - Early Chesapeake Bay Shipping
John Wing, a naval engineer and maritime archaeologist, will give a presentation on early Chesapeake Bay shipping, and will include the ship Snowden, owned by Richard Snowden. No reservation required.

Fall History Lecture Series - Early Mills in Maryland
Nathan Maddox, the miller at Colvin Run Mill historic site in Great Falls, Virginia, will discuss the role mills played in the life of the early settlers in this area. No reservation required.

Fall History Lecture Series - Graveyards in Maryland
James Gibbs discusses the time worn tombstones found throughout Maryland, and how grave markers can provide a valuable lesson in community and family history. No reservation required.

Holiday Candlelight Tours
