Get to Know Your Wild Neighbor Art Contest

Connect - Create - Celebrate

In conjunction with the Get to Know Society, the Department of Parks and Recreation is participating in an, exciting, creative initiative -- the Get to Know Your Wild Neighbor Art Contest.

Youth ages 19 & under are encouraged to get outside and create original art pieces inspired by nature. These pieces can be any of the following: artwork, poetry or other written works, photography, videos or music. Prizes will be awarded! The contest runs through November 1, 2014.

The great outdoors in Prince Georges County is inspirational and filled with beauty. Visit one of the many parks in the County and release your inner artist. The "Get to Know" contest provides a great way for youth to connect with the outdoors, art and to embrace creativity.

The Department of Parks and Recreation’s contest in Prince George’s County will recognize winners in three categories: elementary school, middle school and high school. Prizes in each group are $300 for 1st place winners, $200 for 2nd place winners and $100 for 3rd place winners. One (1) grand prize winner will be awarded $1,000.

In addition to prizes, all winners will be included in the 2nd Annual Get to Know Your Wild Neighbor Art Exhibition in December 2014. The exhibit will take place at the Sports and Learning Complex.

Entering is easy. Simply submit your artwork into the “Get to Know” national art contest and you’ll be automatically entered in the Department of Parks and Recreation’s contest! Your artwork will appear on the “Get to Know” online art gallery and on Parks and Recreation’s online gallery.
