Join us in unearthing the pre-history of Prince George’s County at Dinosaur Park. The park preserves a rare deposit of fossils from the early Cretaceous Period, about 110 million years ago. From the Maryland State Dinosaur Astrodon johnstoni to early flowering plants, the fossils found at Dinosaur Park help scientists reconstruct our region’s ancient history.

Located in Laurel, Maryland, Dinosaur Park preserves one of the most important dinosaur fossil sites east of the Mississippi River. During interpretive programs, citizen scientists of all ages can take part in the ongoing search for fossils. Visitors can also explore a garden of Cretaceous-era plants and a climbable dinosaur skeleton. Interpretive signs describe Maryland’s dinosaurs, the prehistoric environment, and the African-American history of the area.

Important Notes

  • The fenced fossil area is only accessible during Open House hours or by appointment. No unsupervised access to the fossil site is permitted.
  • No personal fossil collecting is allowed at the Park. Digging or removal of any fossils is prohibited.
  • Dinosaur Park is an entirely outdoor facility. Wear closed-toed shoes and dress for the weather.
  • Restrooms are available during scheduled programs.
