Maria Karametou was born in Athens, Greece. She is a mixed media artist and educator with a B.A. from the University of Maryland in College Park and an M.F.A. in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Karametou exhibits widely in the U.S. and Europe and has received many awards, including an individual artist grant from the Maryland State Arts Council. The artist lives in Bethesda, Md.
