Can I earn student service learning hours for volunteering?

Students can earn student service learning hours for many volunteer opportunities. Search the “Student Service Learning” box to find those opportunities.

I have been court-ordered to volunteer. Can I volunteer with the Department of Parks and Recreation to satisfy the court order?

No.

Do I need a criminal background check in order to volunteer?

Department policy requires that all individuals, age 15 and older, who volunteer and have access to children, seniors or other vulnerable populations, must undergo a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, before volunteer service can begin. Once you have been interviewed, the coordinator will schedule a time for you to be fingerprinted.
