Northern Area Trips & Excursions

  • All Northern Area Trips depart from and return to: College Park Airport, 1909 Corporal Frank Scott Drive, College Park, Maryland
  • All trips are self-sustaining, therefore, refunds for all trips will be made only if your place can be filled or the trip is cancelled. Medical reasons cannot be used for refunds unless your spot can be filled.
  • Due to the full tour itinerary, stamina, independence and self-care are necessary. Participant must be able to maintain group pace.
  • Trips depend on sufficient registration; specific registration deadlines may apply.
  • Registration for the summer Trips & Excursions begins Monday, May 13 for residents; Monday, May 20, for all others.

SUNDAY, JUNE 9
DEPARTS: 7:45 AM; RETURNS 7:30 PM
Bucks County Pennsylvania Garden & Kitchen Tour
First stop on this tour is Sunday brunch (included) at the Columbus Inn, in Delaware.  Enjoy a scrumptious buffet with a carving board of roast prime rib, an omelet station, BBQ pulled pork, salads, eggs, roasted chicken, breakfast meats, and delicious sweets.  Meal includes a delicious Bellini or Mimosa, and all non-alcoholic beverages.  After brunch, we’re off to Bucks County, PA for a self-guided tour that is sure to please all flower and garden lovers.   View private gardens in the Doylestown Borough and Maplewood Communities.  This tour showcases a variety of homes, kitchens and gardens from small container deck and patio gardens, to large gardens professionally designed and maintained.  Master gardeners will be on hand at some locations to answer questions pertaining to the beautiful flowers and plants.  Wear walking shoes and enjoy the day in lovely Bucks County, PA.  A stop for ice cream before our return trip home is included.

SATURDAY, JUNE 15

The Majestic Theater:  Gettysburg, PA, “The Lettermen”
Join us for a special evening out. We’ll stop first to enjoy an elegant, delicious dinner (included) at the 4-star restaurant, Antrim 1844, for a selection of wonderful entrées such as Black Angus filet, lobster tail topped with jumbo lump crab, fresh baked Alaskan cod filet and a luscious chef-made dessert.  Enjoy delicious appetizers in the mansion before dinner.  The inn, nestled at the foot of the rolling Catoctin Mountains, is acclaimed for its dinner cuisine and luxurious accommodations.  After dinner, it’s on to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to see The Lettermen, a popular vocal group of the late 50’s, live in concert.  The Lettermen have released 32 albums and recorded scores of hits including “The Way You Look Tonight,” “When I Fall In Love,” “Theme from a Summer Place,” and “Going Out Of My Head/Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” just to name a few.  See original, founding member Tony Butala perform with long-time members Donovan Tea and Bobby Poynton.

Closer Walk with Patsy Cline Tour - Musical
We’re traveling to Patsy Cline’s homeland in Virginia.  First stop is the historic George Washington Hotel, in charming downtown Winchester, for a lovely Southern breakfast buffet (included).  Enjoy a brief history presentation about the hotel while dining.  Next, enjoy a tour of the Patsy Cline Historic House where Patsy resided from 1948-1953.  The house, furnished with some personal items, appears as when Patsy and her family lived there.  Next stop is the Totem Pole Playhouse for a musical production (included) that celebrates the life of Patsy Cline, who rose from humble roots to fame and fortune.  A tasty dinner, after the show, at the Hickory Bridge Country Restaurant is included. Dine in a restored barn and choose from delicious, family-style selections, including oven fried chicken, roast beef, crab cakes, appetizers, salad, homemade peaches, freshly made potato bread and apple butter, delicious corn fritters and dessert.   Join us for a fun day!

St. Michaels All-You-Can-Eat Crabs & Justine’s Ice Cream
The all-you-can-eat crab feast is back this year in St. Michaels, Maryland at the Crab Claw Restaurant.  Enjoy all-you-can-eat crabs on the waterfront deck with an overhead cover.  Also on the menu is all-you-can-eat steamed shrimp, Delmarva chicken wings, homemade potato salad and cole slaw, Eastern Shore corn-on-the-cob, local  tomatoes, vegetables with dip, fruit platter with homemade brownies, cheese and cracker platter, unlimited iced tea or soda and crab soup with crackers.  Time given to explore the quaint town of St. Michaels and for delicious hand-dipped ice cream (included) at Justine’s.  We’ll make a stop at Emily’s Produce for fresh Eastern Shore corn, vine ripe tomatoes, vegetables, and fruits all grown on the family farmland and picked daily at their peak. B & B High Tea – Museum of the Shenandoah, VA
Travel with us to beautiful Shenandoah Valley to view scenic vistas and enjoy an outstanding tour of the Museum of the Shenandoah.  This state-of-the-art, 50,000-square-foot museum features multi-media presentations and dioramas that bring the history of the valley to life.  Tour includes Julian Wood Gallery of fine art and antiques, R. Lee Taylor Miniatures Gallery of furnished miniature rooms and houses, and works from more than 70 miniature artisans that will charm both adults and children.   See a couch owned by Queen Charlotte of England, and over six acres of spectacular gardens.
