Northern Area Trips & Excursions

    All Northern Area Trips depart from and return to:

  • All trips are self-sustaining, therefore, refunds for all trips will be made only if your place can be filled or the trip is cancelled. Medical reasons cannot be used for refunds unless your spot can be filled.
  • Due to the full tour itinerary, stamina, independence and self-care are necessary. Participants must be able to maintain group pace.
  • Trips depend on sufficient registration; specific registration deadlines may apply.
  • Registration for the Summer Trips & Excursions begins Monday, August 11 for Prince George's County residents and Monday, August 18 for Montgomery County residents and non-residents.
  • Note: Montgomery County residents pay the resident fee for all trips
  • Note: Touch-tone telephone registration is no longer available

Sunday, OCTOBER 5, 2014

Sunday Brunch - Jefferson Hotel, VA

You won’t want to miss this wonderful tour of Richmond! First stop on this great tour is for Sunday Champagne Brunch at the historic Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. Enjoy all your favorite foods with a lavish buffet that consists of scrumptious entrees from breakfast to dinner options. Brunch will be served right off the beautiful Rotunda lobby with music and exquisite ice carvings. After brunch, we will tour the area with a step-on-guide for a riding tour to see special tourist sites. These include the Virginia Capital Building, Monument Avenue, with statues of Jefferson Davis, Arthur Ash, Robert E. Lee, and Bojangle’s Monument. We’ll also have a picture stop at the at the Maggie L. Walker Historic site, an entrepreneur and civil rights activist and the first African American Woman to become a bank president. The last stop is an indoor tour of Maymont, a Romanesque-style mansion during the Gilded Age of the late 1880’s.

Fall Foliage, Carriage Ride, Lexington, VA 

First stop on this autumn adventure is a hearty breakfast inclusive to the trip at Cracker Barrel in Virginia. Once in Lexington, Virginia, we will enjoy mountain views with beautiful vistas and a 40-minute narrated horse-drawn carriage ride that will take you past many historic sites and residential areas. Included is an indoor tour of the Stonewall Jackson House and the beautiful Washington and Lee Chapel Museum. Afterward, we will travel a short distance to Buena Vista for more great views as this small town is situated between the Blue Ridge and the Alleghany Mountains. During this time, enjoy time on your own to shop at the Amish Cupboard market. End the day with a wonderful dinner is inclusive to your stay at the exquisitely restored Joshua Wilton House Bed and Breakfast Restaurant. Halloween Concert - US Naval Academy, Maryland 

Join us as we travel to the USNA to attend their annual Halloween Concert for a spectacular event of music, light, drama, and dance in the Naval Academy Chapel! This production is an experience you will not forget. The electrifying concert features the Chapel Organist with multi-faceted talents of midshipmen in a presentation that has drawn record-breaking crowds. The incredible performance and grand finale will leave you on the edge of your seat. Enjoy dinner before the show at Harry Brown’s Restaurant, a local landmark in the heart of Annapolis. This restaurant features a buffet with entrée selections of Maryland Crab Cakes, carved meats, salads and delicious desserts. Photo ID is required to get on the Naval Academy Campus. Motorcoach Tour of the Southern USA

Join us for an exciting tour of the southern United States! This custom tour includes 12 night accommodations (with meals included) at beachfront resorts throughout Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.

While in Florida you’ll stroll through cobblestoned streets of St. Augustine exploring the historic downtown; highlights include Castillo de San Marcos and the Lightner Museum. Then you’ll be whisked to Sarasota for the day to visit the Ringling Museum of Art, Ca’d’zan on the bay and the fun fanfare of the American Circus Museum!

The tour heads to Georgia where you’ll experience Jekyll Island, home of the world’s wealthiest from the 1880s to right after WWII; Brunswick with its historic housing, shrimp boats and port activity. Take a 3 hour Savannah experience tour with plenty of time to discover the sights.

Afterward the trip heads to South Carolina! You’ll visit Beaufort, known for its rich African American heritage and Gullah culture, and the beautiful Hilton Head Island. Also, see St. Simon’s Island a historic landmark and tour Christ Church; then visit Charleston with a land and sea excursion seeing over 75 landmarks. Enjoy the last night of your trip in Myrtle Beach at a spectacular oceanfront hotel!

Annapolis Holly Trolley Tour - Annapolis, Maryland 

First stop on this fun tour is just across the Bay Bridge and you’ll dine at the famous Narrows restaurant. Enjoy the best crab cakes around, other great entrée selections and delicious desserts. After a wonderful dinner, we will head to the Annapolis area where to board the Holly Trolley. While on this 60 minute trolley ride, you’ll see the city lights around historic Annapolis and Sandy Point on the Bay. This year the light display even includes the Naval Academy midshipmen tossing their hats in the air and a lighted replica of a Colonial Village. Come enjoy the food, the Holly Trolley and a spirit of holiday fun on the trip!
