Cosca Tennis Bubble

NOTICE TO COSCA TENNIS BUBBLE PATRONS – July 2, 2014:

Recently, the Department has heard from many patrons inquiring about the operational status of the Cosca Tennis Bubble.

A community meeting was held at Stephen Decatur Middle School on June 25th and the Department shared the following information with attendees:

As the Cosca Tennis Bubble approaches the end of its normal life cycle for tennis bubbles (10-15 years), the Department has decided to move forward with a complete replacement of the tennis bubble to include a new heating and air conditioning system.

In addition to a new bubble structure, this project will also include required accessibility updates for the Cosca Tennis Bubble administrative building and the creation of an accessible route to the administrative building and interior amenities.

Our goal is to ensure that we offer an accessible, year-round indoor tennis facility that can be enjoyed by all patrons who wish to utilize it.

This project is scheduled to take place over the next year, with the following timeline below:

  • July 2014-November 2014
    - Design and procurement for the news tennis bubble, administrative building and accessible route/entrance.
    - County permitting and approval
  • November 2014-Fall 2015
Temporary closure of the tennis bubble and administrative building – LAST DAY OF OPERATION WILL BE SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2014
    - While Cosca Tennis Bubble is closed and as space and time permits, we will attempt to accommodate Cosca patrons at other tennis bubbles within the Department, such as Watkins and Fairland.
    - For more information, please contact the Watkins and Cosca Facility Director, Myron Davis at 301-218-6870.
  • Fall 2015
    - Cosca Tennis Bubble is estimated to be re-opened in Fall 2015

We appreciate the community’s patience as the Department determined the next steps for addressing the heating and accessibility issues present at the the existing Cosca Tennis Bubble.

As the project progresses, we will provide updates to patrons via this website.
