Health and Wellness ProgramsIn response to the alarming number of chronic disease related deaths, overweight and unfit children, teens and adults in Prince George’s County, the Department of Parks and Recreation is offering programming to decrease this epidemic in our county. Health and Wellness programs developed and targeted toward current health disparity regions and reflect their diverse community needs. Dine and Learn
Every 4th Wednesday at Suitland Community Center Dine and Learn offers a brief nutrition lecture exercise and cooking demonstration.
The Prince George’s County, Department of Parks and Recreation received the 2011 ACHIEVE grant from the National Recreation and Parks Association supported by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention. The department’s Health and Wellness Operation has taken the lead to ACHIEVE which seeks to empower local communities to promote policies, systems, and environmental change strategies—focusing on issues such as physical fitness and obesity, nutrition, and tobacco cessation—to advance the nation’s efforts to prevent chronic diseases and related risk factors.
