About the Complex

This aquatics facility is dedicated in the memory of Theresa Douglas Banks (1905-1972). Ms. Banks was a committed educator, community activist and dedicated welfare worker. She was the first female member of the Glenarden Town Council and served as Town Clerk for many years. She was also a teacher at Highland Park Elementary School. Ms. Banks helped to establish a branch of the county's public library system in Fairmont Heights. She was inducted into the Prince George's County Women's Hall of Fame in 1988. A portrait of her hangs near the entrance to the pool.

A year-round indoor pool, Theresa Banks Memorial Aquatics Center is accessed through the adjacent  Glenarden Community Center. Most recently, it was renovated in 2012. This facility's amenities include 20-yard lap lanes, a spa/hot tub, an outdoor patio area with Funbrellas and shower/changing facilities with lockers.

It also offers American Red Cross swimming lessons, water aerobics, certification courses and birthday parties (indoor and outdoor) are available by reservation. This facility also offers  the very popular “Hydro Spin” water cycling fitness class.
