About the Complex

Theresa Banks Memorial Aquatics Center

A year-round indoor pool, Theresa Banks Memorial Aquatics Center is accessed through the adjacent Glenarden Community Center. Most recently, it was renovated in 2012. This facility's amenities include 20-yard lap lanes, a spa/hot tub, an outdoor patio area with Funbrellas and shower/changing facilities with lockers.

Theresa Banks Memorial Aquatics Center also offers American Red Cross swimming lessons, water fitness courses, certification course, and birthday parties (indoor and outdoor) are available by reservation. This facility also offers the very popular “Hydro Spin” water cycling fitness class.

Theresa Douglas Banks
This aquatics facility is dedicated in the memory of Theresa Douglas Banks (1905-1972), a committed educator, community and dedicated welfare worker. During her career, she was the first female member of the Glenarden Town Council, served as Town Clerk, and was a teacher at Highland Park Elementary School.

Her dedication to the community led Ms. Banks to help establish a branch of the County's public library system in Fairmont Heights. In 1988, she was inducted into the Prince George's County Women's Hall of Fame in 1988. In memory of her service, a portrait of Ms. Banks hangs near the entrance of the pool.
