This large seasonal, outdoor facility is attached to the Herbert seasonal Well Ice Rink and it's amenities include a large family pool, water slide, a wading pool for small children, outdoor basketball courts, shower/changing facilities with coin-operated lockers and a vending area. This facility offers American Red Cross swimming lessons, certification courses, summer day camps for youth and teens and birthday parties packages are available by reservation. Ellen Linson is also home to the Prince George's Parks and Recreation Swim Team which competes in the Prince-Mont Summer Swim League.

A farmers market, featuring fresh fruits, vegetables, and plants is held on-site Saturday mornings from May through November, and a flea market is open to the public on scheduled Saturdays.

Renovation

A major, multi-year renovation of the Herbert Wells Ice Rink and Ellen E. Linson Outdoor Pool has begun. The work will be done in several phases over a two year period in order to eliminate the need to close either the pool or ice rink and lose a swim or skate season. Click here for more information.

NOTE: Impact to 2014 Summer Day Camps
Due to planned construction activities that will close the warming hut building, the 2014 Summer Camp program will be temporarily relocated from Well-Linson to another facility. Please contact Wells-Linson staff at 301-277-3717 for more detailed information.

  • Proof of residency and identification are required.
  • Everyone entering the facility must pay admission fees.
  • Children, 11 years old and under, must be accompanied by a paying adult who is responsible for their supervision at poolside.
    Children, 5 years old and under, in the water must be within arm’s reach and directly supervised by a responsible adult in appropriate swim attire. Poolside supervision is acceptable at wading/baby pools ONLY.
  • Children 12-17 must have a SMARTlink ID and parental consent to be at the facility unattended.
  • If you leave the facility you must pay to re-enter.
  • Following unscheduled pool closures (i.e. fecal contamination, inclement weather, mechanical problems), re-entry passes will be issues to patrons providing receipts of entry to the pool within the last hour.

    Birthday Party Packages

    This facility offers 2 Funbrella shade structures for birthday party rentals for children ages 1-13 years old. Pool birthday parties rentals consist of 3 hours in the rental area, 4 picnic tables and unlimited swimming in the pool. Parties are offered only on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 PM-3:00 PM or 3:30 PM-6:30 PM, Memorial Day Weekend - Labor Day Weekend. Food and non-alcoholic beverages in plastic containers may be brought in. (Refrigerator, freezer and/or ice is not available.)

    You must have a SMARTlink account in order to reserve a birthday party with the child’s name added on the account that the birthday party is being held for. (Please click here to see acceptable proof of residency and identity.) All reservations must be made and paid in full in person; please call the facility for reservation registration hours.

    GENERAL PARTY RULES AND INFORMATION
    • Pictures are restricted to your party area and can only be taken of individuals in attendance of your party. Video is strictly prohibited.
    • Grills, BBQs and other cooking devices are prohibited.
    • Costume characters, clowns, performers, DJs, etc. are prohibited.
    • Balloons are only permitted in reserved area.
    • Failure to leave your location free of debris, food, decorations and trash will be charged an additional cleaning fee of $50.
    • Your birthday party list is due to the facility 48 hours in advance of your party rental date. If additional guest are listed then you must come in person to secure the rental.
    • NOTE: Due to higher bather loads and demand for access to the pools during the summer season, admission for additional guests, beyond those included in the birthday party package, cannot be guaranteed. In the event the pool has reached capacity, additional guests may not be honored. Additional guests are subject to paying the general admission fees for entry to the facility
    • All reservations are subject to the Inclement Weather Policy.
    • Upon completion of the reservation, a list of party rules and regulations will be issued (i.e. no lighted candles, balloons, glass containers, and cameras on pool deck during Splash Park parties).
    • Facility Management reserves the right to revise and/or establish additional rules and regulations at anytime in the interest of the health and safety of our patrons & staff. All facility rules & regulations will be enforced.

    Adapted Aquatics: Social Swim

    Ellen Linson is also home of the Social Swim program. The Social Swim program which began here at Ellen Linson Swimming Pool has long been a popular program for individuals with developmental disabilities. This adaptive aquatic program provides participants ages 13 & up with the opportunity to develop and maintain social skills while having fun playing games such as treasure hunt, water polo and volleyball with their peers. In response to many requests from residents for more Social Swim opportunities, this program is now being offered year-round at various Prince George's Parks and Recreations aquatic facilities.     Location/Directions

    The pool is located in College Park, Maryland, convenient to the University of Maryland, between Route 1 and Kenilworth Avenue. Accessible by Metro on the Green Line, College Park station. From the Capital Beltway (I-495), take Exit 23 South (College Park). This is Kenilworth Avenue (Route 201). Proceed for 1½ miles, and turn right onto Paint Branch Parkway. Turn left into the parking lot (across from the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant).

    From U.S. Route 1, turn onto Paint Branch Parkway at the intersection in front of the main entrance to the University of Maryland. After the fourth traffic light, turn right and then make an immediate left into the parking lot.
