Being a senior in Prince George's County is better than ever. Offering a wide range of programs, facilities and services, the Department of Parks and Recreation is dedicated to meeting the social, intellectual and recreational needs of residents who are 60 years old & better.

Enjoy social activities, fitness/health/wellness programs and classes, sports, the arts, trips, crafts, hobbies, games, movies, nature and more. Learn, play, relax, socialize and stay fit at M-NCPPC parks and facilities. Attend classes, or go to an exhibit or performance. Use the parks, trails and recreation facilities at your leisure, alongside people of all ages or with other seniors 60 & better.

Do you know any Prince George’s County residents who are 90 years old or better?

The Department of Parks and Recreation is collecting information about county residents who are ages 90 and older.  Special recognition will be given to centenarians - residents who are 100 years old and older - at a spring event. We need your help identifying Prince George’s County residents ages 90 and above. If you know someone who resides in the county and is 90 years old or older (turned age 90 in Year 2011 or before), please share the information with us. Please click here to forward this information to us (no later than February 27, 2012). Your help is greatly appreciated!


Senior Activity Centers

M-NCPPC offers five friendly, inviting senior activity centers just for people ages 60 and over. These senior activity centers offer special events, trips, classes, health programs, information and referrals. Provided by the Prince George’s County Department of Family Services, Area Office on Aging, transportation and hot lunches are also available at these sites. If you are a resident of Prince George’s or Montgomery Counties, membership cards for admission to these senior activity centers are free and allow you to participate in the programs of interest to you.
The Senior Activity Center participant eligibility requirements are as follows:
  • Minimum age: 60
  • M-NCPPC SMARTlink Senior ID: M-NCPPC Senior ID cards are FREE for Prince George’s and Montgomery County residents. Non-residents can join for a nominal fee. To obtain your card, bring proof of residency and age to any M-NCPPC community center or senior activity center in Prince George’s County during operating hours.
  • Ability to participate in recreational activities with minimal personal assistance.
  • Ability to take care of personal needs (i.e. hygiene, eating, mobility, medication, etc.)

Senior Clubs

Many community centers have senior clubs that meet on specific days and times each week. Don’t sit on the sidelines - come out and make new friends and take part in a variety of senior club activities. For details on club activities, contact the community center where the club meets.

Seniors 60 & better who reside in Prince George’s or Montgomery Counties can obtain their FREE Community Center/Fitness Room ID cards by simply bringing proof of residency and age to any M-NCPPC community center during operating hours. New members are always welcome, so come on out and join a club today!

Sports, Health and Wellness Opportunities

Did you know seniors ages 60 & better who are residents of Prince George’s or Montgomery Counties can work out at any M-NCPPC community center fitness room for FREE with an M-NCPPC Community Center/Fitness ID Card? Just bring verification of residency and age to the center to obtain your FREE senior membership card. Fitness room amenities vary by site and allow you to work out at times and locations that is convenient for you.

Senior Days at the
Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex offer FREE use of the facility's pool, fitness center and indoor walking track on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 9 am to 12 noon. Make a pledge to stay healthy and active and take advantage of this FREE workout opportunity!

Reduced rates are available for seniors 60 & better at Enterprise Golf Course , Paint Branch Golf Course and Henson Creek Golf Course . Many aquatic, exercise and fitness classes are also available throughout the county. Arts Opportunities

seniors at the movies Arts opportunities abound in Prince George’s County. Check out the many offerings at community centers, Montpelier Arts Center , the Prince George's Publick Playhouse , and Harmony Hall Regional Center . Just for seniors 60 & better, the Platinum Movie Series is a FREE program at the Publick Playhouse. Take a look at the schedule and join other seniors for a fun day at the movies!

Calling all senior men and women!  Join us at the Prince George's Ballroom for our annual spring social and parade of hats.  A tasty assortment of teas, pastries and tea sandwiches will be provided along with live entertainment.  For participants who wish to join in the parade of hats, you must sign up at the event registration table no later than 11:00am.  Prizes will be awarded in the following hat categories:  Most Colorful, Most Unique, Most Elegant, Most Impressive, and Most Amusing.  Bring your favorite tea cup and put it on display for others to see.  The tea cup that receives the most votes will be given a "People's Choice Award".

William Ellis wins 2012 Prince George's Senior Idol Contest

For the second year, the Special Programs Division Senior Services Unit sponsored the Prince George’s County Senior Idol auditions. Thirty talented seniors from throughout the county sang their hearts out for judges Roosevelt Smith, Brenda Harris,  Christel Stevens, and Sterling Dorn in early January.

William Ellis was crowned the Prince George’s County Senior Idol winner and Barbara Washington was crowned the runner up. Both will represent Prince George’s County in the Maryland Senior Idol Program on April 4, 2012, at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts, 15200 Annapolis Road in Bowie, MD.

We are excited and proud to have William and Barbara represent Prince George's County and complete for the 2012 Maryland Senior Idol title!!  Congratulations William and Barbara!
