touching animal The Patuxent River 4-H Center, located on 74 acres of land near the Patuxent River, is an open space environmental education facility. The center is a cooperative venture between the Patuxent River 4-H Foundation, The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and the Maryland Cooperative Extension Service. The site has three cabins for overnight use, a main activity center with meeting rooms and dining facilities, and a pavilion for picnics. Catering services are available.

The center offers a variety of environmental education programs and activities for people of all ages. Daily, weekly and overnight programs are offered regularly along with traditional 4-H activities. The center is accredited by the American Camping Association.

Advanced reservations are required for all activities. For additional information, please contact staff at the number above.

1st Annual "American Indian Festival"
November is National American Indian Heritage Month .
Featuring Master of Ceremonies, Michael Nephew and live music with Ron Warren & Janice Torres, and The Black Bear Singers; storytelling by Joseph Stands with Many & Zachary Strong Buffalo; Indian dance performances by Chris Newman and Dennis Zotigh; an art show: Gina Robles-Villalba and Chuck Tsinnie; multiple educational exhibits by AIHEA & 4-H Center; vendors; demonstrations (many include an opportunity for you to try); hoop dance; flint knapping; tool and bow making; hand beading; finger weaving; natural dyeing, spinning, & weaving; Indian games & crafts; a live bald eagle and a hawk; and canoeing and archery.

This is a great opportunity for scouts to fulfill several partial badge requirements (try-its, etc.). Register to participate in the group art contest with a Native American Month theme (cash prizes), and bid in the silent auction.

Delicious food including Indian tacos, fry bread, chili, corn soup, hamburgers hot dogs, desserts, hot & cold beverages will be available for purchase.

Located on 74 acres of land near the Patuxent River.

From Route 301 in Bowie, turn onto Queen Anne Road. Go 2.2 miles and turn right at entrance to Patuxent River 4-H Center. Follow road to activity building.
