Located just a short walking distance from the miniature train station in Watkins Regional Park, Old Maryland Farm is an educational farm facility open to the public. Its agricultural exhibits, livestock, and display gardens provide a farming experience to visitors. Interpretive programs for students visiting the farm are correlated to the Maryland State Curriculum for grades K-12. The facility offers interested visitors of all ages a variety of volunteer opportunities related to animal care, greenhouse and garden maintenance, and visitor services.

Old Maryland Farm offers opportunities for birthday parties, hay rides, and farm demonstrations.

Groups of 15 or more please call to make reservation during normal business hours

Saturdays & Sundays,  1 pm - 3 pm

Hayrides $1 per person


PUBLIC PROGRAMS (Recommended ages 5 years and older)

Fee: $2/ person Bi-County Resident, $3 / person Non-County Resident. Reservations required.

  • June 14 - Gardening      

        Learn how to get seeds started and maintain plants.

  • June 21 - Garden Bugs:The Good and Bad

        Plants and bugs how they affect each other: Who’s naughty & Who’s nice.

  • June 28 -  Horse and Pony

        Learn basic care, physical features, and the uses of horses and ponies.

  • July 5 - Livestock Tour

        Tour the farm and learn the origins, characteristics and behaviors of the animals.

  • July 12 - Dairy Cows

        Learn about basic care, and physical features of dairy cows, and the products they produce.

  • July 19 - Bees & Butterflies

        Discover the physical features, behaviors and habitat of bees and butterflies.

  • July 26 - Backyard Birds

        Learn about the physical features and proper care of chickens.

  • Aug 2 - Sheep & Llama

        Learn about their physical features, care, and the products they produce.

  • Aug 9 - Discover Plant Products

        Discover the products you use daily that come from plants.


Children's crafts (ages 2 - 8 years)

June 19, July 17, & August 14 (Tuesdays) 1- 2pm

Location/Directions

From the Capital Beltway (I-495), take Exit 15A, Central Avenue (Route 214) East. At third stoplight, turn right onto Watkins Park Drive (Route 193) South. Proceed 1 mile and turn right into Watkins Regional Park. After turning into Watkins Regional Park at the marquee sign, go straight at stop sign, turn right; go 100 feet and take a left. At next stop sign, turn left into the playground parking lot. Walk the paved path next to the train and carousel that leads to the farm.

From Route 301, take exit for Route 214 (Central Avenue) West. At third stoplight turn left onto Watkins Park Drive (Route 193) South. Go 1 mile, turn right onto Watkins Park Drive at the marquee sign. Go straight, at stop sign, turn left into the playground parking lot. Walk the paved path next to the train and carousel that leads to the farm.
