Anacostia River Pontoon Boat Tours

April 16-October 31
Tuesday-Friday, 12 noon-12:45 pm
Saturday & Sunday, 5-5:45 pm
Join a Naturalist or Historian on a pontoon boat for a free interpretive environmental and/or historical tour of the scenic Anacostia River. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the boat departs. Sign up begins 30 minutes before the boat departs on the day of your boat tour. Groups of 12 or more people must pre-schedule a separate boat tour. Persons 16 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Kayak Lessons

Saturday, April 27, 10 am-2 pm
Learn paddling skills from a certified instructor. Persons 16 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations required. Please reserve through Smartlink.

Scavenger Hunt & Geocaching

Saturday, April 27, 1-3 pm
Explore the outdoors in a whole new way. Join a Naturalist in search of nature’s beauty. Hunt for treasures using nature clues and/or a geocaching GPS units. Geocaching, a high-tech treasure hunting game, is played world-wide by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Fishing 101

Sunday, April 28, 10 am-1 pm
Learn about casting, handling fish, fishing safety and fish biology. This program is for those with little to no experience. Rods and bait provided. Children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Pontoon River Boat Tour

Saturday, May 4, 1-4 pm
Travel with us to The National Arboretum and enjoy a free interpretive pontoon boat tour down the Anacostia River to the National Arboretum. Get off at the Arboretum in Washington D.C. Tour this national treasure, bring refreshments and/or a blanket and relax on the lawn near the river. Additional fees may apply if you want to the tram tour of the Arboretum. Call the Arboretum to reserve. There is a paved inclined hill to walk in order to get to the top of the N.A. Call us for more information on accessibility from the river. Space is limited. Reservations Required.

Wildflower Walk

Saturday, May 11, 1-3 pm
The park and trails are alive with colors and sounds of nature. Join a Naturalist in search of the beautiful wildflowers of the area.

Enjoy a day on the river. Learn basic paddling skills from a certified instructor. Boats, paddles and life jackets are provided. Children 16 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet.

A-May-Zing Animal Fest

Saturday, May 18, 12 noon-4 pm
Enjoy this free, fun, family event featuring live birds of prey, exotic reptile, farm animals, horses, a puppet show, arts and craft, food vendors and more.

Pontoon Ride: Bird Watching

Sunday, May 19, 1-3 pm
Take a free pontoon ride down the scenic Anacostia River in search of the beautiful birds of the area. Bring refreshments.

Open House 

Saturday, May 25, 9 am–3 pm
Bring the family and enjoy a day in the park full of activities. Learn basic fishing and canoe paddling techniques. Participate in a canoe race. Walk the trail. Bring your bike and take a ride on the Anacostia River Trail. Take a pontoon boat ride down the river.  Free lunch (while supplies last). Sponsored by Ladders-N-Things.  Call for more information.

Caribbean Fest

Saturday, June 1, 12:00 noon–8 pm
Experience a "Taste of the Caribbean." Enjoy live performances, vendors, delicious food, great music, free boat rides "pon de river", and more.  Seating under the large pavilion is limited. Bring your chair and an umbrella to keep cool or find a cool spot under a tree. Free parking in the park (limited). Rent a paddle boat, canoe or kayak. Most of all, enjoy a day by the river.  Call for more information.
