huntington exterior Huntington Community Center features a lobby, 3 multi-purpose rooms, fitness room, lounge, arts & crafts room, gallery space, warming kitchen, and conference room located in the heart of historic Old Bowie. The facility's outdoor amenities include a basketball court and playground equipment. The center is available for rentals.

Sports, arts, fitness, dance, crafts, cooking, self-improvement, drama, games, hobbies, martial arts, music, and do-it-yourself instruction are among the activities offered here. The center also hosts tournaments, clubs, camps, special events, workshops, drop-in programs, after-school programs, and cultural activities at different times. Pre-schoolers, children, teens, adults, and senior citizens will find a variety of recreation opportunities available at the center.

Art gallery/Cyber Café

View a wide variety of exhibits by local artists in the center’s art gallery. As an added bonus, enjoy FREE Internet access while you sip coffee in a comfortable environment. The gallery is open Mondays-Thursdays, 7 am-9 pm; Fridays, 7 am-7 pm; Saturdays, 9 am-5 pm; and Sundays, 12 noon-5 pm.

Throughout September and October, you can view the mixed media collages of Sharon and Sherry Burton entitled “Feminine Identity”. A reception for the art showcase is scheduled for Thursday, September 16, 7-9 pm. In November and December, mark your calendars to see Artistic Visions’ presentation of “Festival of Trees”. This show utilizes recycled materials celebrating the seasons and honors nature through reused materials. A reception for the artists exhibiting in this showcase will be held Thursday, December 9, 7-9 pm. Call for more information.

Location/Directions

Located in the historic Huntington section of Bowie.

From the Capital Beltway (I-495), take Exit Route 450 East. Bear right onto Route 564 (Lanham-Severn Road). Go 5 miles. In Bowie, turn left on Maple Avenue. Turn right onto 8th Street. The center is on the right.

From Route 3/301, turn onto Route 450 West. Make a right at the light onto Race Track Road. At the intersection with Rt. 197, continue straight onto Rt. 564. Turn right on Chestnut Avenue, then take an immediate right as you come off the railroad bridge. Turn left on 7th Street. The parking lot is on the left.
