Fall Jazz Series
The first concert of the Montpelier Fall Jazz Series will be held on Friday, September 25. Don’t wait until then to buy your tickets! This series often sells out in the first week of individual sales. Series tickets ($120 for all 7 concerts) go on sale Tuesday, August 18 at 8:30 am. Individual concert tickets ($20/concert) go on sale Tuesday, August 25.

Friday, Sept. 25, 8 pm Buck Hill Quartet Local jazz legend, Buck Hill is known world–wide for his soulful and flawless saxophone playing. During his long career he has appeared onstage with Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie among others. Tickets: $20; $18 / seniors and Montpelier members.

Friday, Oct. 16, 8pm Esther Williams & Davey Yarborough (SOLD OUT) Esther’s flawless vocals and Davey’s haunting flute and saxophone sound so good in the Montpelier concert space that you should not miss this eminent jazz couple. Friday, Oct. 30, 8 pm Cedar Walton (SOLD OUT) Jazz pianist, Cedar Walton is the first pianist to record with John Coltrane. Friday, November 13, 8 pm Steve Abshire Quartet Tickets: $20; $18 / seniors and Montpelier members. This popular guitarist is featured on Montpelier’s latest CD, “Dick Morgan, Live at Montpelier” and will bring his own quartet to Montpelier for this final concert of the fall jazz series.

The Montpelier Classical Recital Series Montpelier Arts Center is pleased to announce the winners of the 2008-09 Classical Recital Competition. Congratulations to: Makeda Hampton, National Brass, Emmanuel Borowsky, Greg Giannascoli, Daniel Holmes, Basso Moderno Duo, Zane Forshee, and Marcolivia
Held biennially, this year’s winners were chosen from 99 applications by Gail Berman, Arts Facilities Coordinator of the Maryland – National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Ms Berman is both a classical musician and a conductor with many years experience in the arts.
The winners will perform in 8 recitals over the next two years. All recitals are Sundays at 3 pm. in October. To make a reservation for a recital, please call the Montpelier Arts Center at 301-377-7800.

Basso Moderno Duo are Allan Von Schenkel, a creative bass soloist and Kristen Williams, a talented pianist and soprano soloist, whose mission is to promote the works of living composers from all over the world by commissioning works for bass and piano.

Marcolivia are Olivia Hajioff and Marc Ramirez, an award-winning violin and violin/viola duo who perform music from all styles and periods, including Folk Music, French Duos spanning 300 years, and Salon/Virtuoso concerts.
