Montpelier Fall Jazz Series

The first concert of the Montpelier Fall Jazz Series will be held on Friday, September 10. Don’t wait until then to buy your tickets. This series often sells out in the first week of individual sales. Series tickets ($120 for all 7 concerts=one free concert!) go on sale Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 8:30 am. Individual concert tickets ($20/ concert) go on sale Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 8:30 am. Members and seniors 60 & up receive a 10% discount. Visa and MasterCard accepted.

Buck Hill is known world–wide for his soulful saxophone playing. During his long career he has appeared onstage with Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie among others. For more than 20 years, diva Julia Nixon has been a fixture on the Washington, D.C. music scene and beyond. Her tremendous vocal power has inspired comparisons with such artists as Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner, and earned her the lead role in the Broadway production Dreamgirls.

Forging its own synthesis of jazz and instrumental Latin dance music, Rumba Club finishes out the 2010 series with rhythms described by LATIN BEAT magazine as "the finest dancing and listening music possible.”

The Montpelier Folk and Blues Series

The Folk and Blues will return in the spring of 2011. Past series have included Richie Havens, Odetta, John Sebastian, Phil Wiggins, the Carolina Chocolate Drops and more. Series tickets will go on sale in early February. Email: montpelier.arts@pgparks.com to receive advance notice of the lineup.

Solo is a Senegalese cab driver working to provide a better life for his young family. William is a tough Southern good ol' boy with a lifetime of regrets. Despite their differences, both men soon realize they need each other more than either is willing to admit. This film explores the passing of a generation as well as the rapidly changing face of America. Dinner will be served.

A traditional Pakistani father finds his family spinning out of control in this cross-cultural comedy set in 1971 in Salford, near Manchester, England. Om Puri plays the stern patriarch who rules over a brood of six sons and one daughter with an increasingly limp rod if iron. When his sons find out that he has secretly been arranging marriages for them, they rebel with repercussions that force the family to reconsider its inherent structure.
