Classes, Workshops, Camps

Descriptions of specific classes and online registration can be found SMARTlink. To locate Montpelier classes, browse listings using the advanced search. Choose Montpelier Arts Center as your facility and the date range from today’s date -August 31. This search will bring up all available classes at Montpelier for the summer class session. The summer course session runs from June 1-August 31. In the summer classes for children are taught weekly morning and afternoon. They can be combined with before, lunch, or after care for a full week of art. Registration is underway. There are several June workshops and weekly classes begin the last week of June and go through mid-August.

Montpelier courses are unique!
Take classes in welding, raku-fired ceramics, bronze casting, cartooning, rug hooking as well as more traditional arts. All instructors are practicing artists. Independent study opportunities are available. Courses for children, teens, and adults can be special one day workshops addressing a particular theme or skill or six to eight week long sessions. New classes include The Art of the Storybook a special workshop for children, poetry and journal writing classes for all ages; an expanded Digital Photography and Digital Animation lab for children (10 yrs & up) and adults. Learn how to use that new digital camera like a pro; make a short film, or find out about the world of sound recording.
After School Study and Art, ages 8-13 (Lifestyle & Learning)

This after school program will begin in the fall and provide a creative environment for children to work on a variety of visual arts projects, as well as a good place to work on homework. Activities will vary from week to week. A snack will be provided. Children may also take regular Montpelier art classes. Aftercare will not be held when schools are closed. Transportation to Montpelier is available for middle school students at Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School.

Parents/Guardians should inform the school that their child will be attending the Montpelier After School Study and Art program. Parents of students at Montpelier Elementary and Deerfield Run Elementary schools may request that their children be allowed to walk to Montpelier Arts Center after school. All others will have to provide their own transportation to the center. Children must be picked up from after care by 6 pm. The After School program will begin in the winter session. To register for the program, call the center or sign up online at SMARTlink. Parents please note that classes are by the month and you will need to register for each month you require care. 
 

Opportunities for home-schooled children

Interested groups should contact the Center. Descriptions of classes and registration information can be found online or in the Prince George's County Parks and Recreation Guide published four times a year.

Summer Camps

Montpelier Arts Center offers special summer camps in the visual arts for children and teens. Usually held throughout the summer, registration for these and other parks and recreation camps will be in February. Camp booklets can be picked up from park facilities and county libraries.
