Black-owned and operated hotels have existed since pre-turn of the century. It was in Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963, where he highlighted the disparity in lodging when he stated, “…our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities.” Come learn of the many hotel and travel accommodations that were made for and by African Americans.
Lunch, entertainment, and music will be provided.
