Giving Voices Initiative: The Black Madisons- Uncovering the History of a President’s Black Family (Virtual Event)

Thursday, April 8, 2021

She was her family's griot (storyteller). Through her brilliant research she discovered a lost history connecting her Black family to Founding Father, President James Madison. Let's talk with Dr. Bettye Kearse and hear this once hidden story, come to life.

Throughout history, many voices have been muted, many stories have been suppressed. Now through the work at Marietta House Museum, we are working to collect, preserve, and share them. Join us as we launch the Giving Voices Initiative with this engaging and meaningful event.

The Giving Voices Initiative is a collection of events, programs, and projects designed to inspire and guide you through uncovering and preserving untold stories, including your own family history.

Join us in this first virtual event, share your thoughts and questions with Dr. Bettye Kearse author of "The Other Madisons: The Lost History of a President’s Black Family” and Smithsonian Institution Anacostia Museum director Dr. Melanie Adams.
