New for 2013 - $10,000 Prize Money
With the new prize purse of $10,000, the 50 slots for the Beltway BBQ Showdown Contest will go quickly! Registration is underway and I would love to take this opportunity to invite you to participate. Join us at the Tucker Road Athletic Complex, 1770 Tucker Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744 for the 7th Annual Beltway BBQ Showdown State Championship, scheduled for May 31 & June 1, 2013. This event is an officially sanctioned Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) event and the winner will be eligible to compete in the American Royal Contest in Kansas City.
Teams may compete, and prizes are awarded, in four categories: Brisket, Pork Ribs, Chicken and Pork. To be eligible for the Grand Prize you must be entered in all four categories. Teams must check in on Friday, May 31 between 9 am-7 pm; with the cooks’ meeting beginning promptly at 7 pm. Judging starts on Saturday, June 1 at 12 noon, and follows KCBS rules and turn in times.
The entry fee is required with submission of the registration form. The fee includes a 20’ x 20’ space and water access. Electricity and extra-large spaces are available for an additional charge. The Tucker Road Athletic Complex is close to the Capital Beltway (I-495) at the St. Barnabas Road Exit.
Two favorite programs for the visiting crowds give opportunities to taste your fabulous cooking skills. For the Buck-A-Bone program we ask you to cook 10 racks of ribs, which we supply, in your own special way. The People’s Choice is a sauce contest, winners are voted on by the general public. Provide 32-64 ozs of your secret recipe for the chance to win a $100 prize!
