The planning areas are generally located in central Prince George's County.

The Subregion 6 Study Area covers the southeastern quarter of Prince George's County. It is bounded by the Patuxent River along its eastern edge. Two municipalities located within the study area are Upper Marlboro (the county seat) and Eagle Harbor.
